Professional certification demonstrates your HR knowledge, experience and commitment to the profession. Missouri SHRM supports HR professionals pursuing and maintaining both SHRM and HRCI credentials.
SHRM CERTIFICATION SHRM offers two competency-based certifications: the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) for individuals performing HR-related duties or pursuing a career in HR, and the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) for professionals performing strategic-level HR work. SHRM CERTIFICATION What is SHRM Certification? |
SHRM-CP The SHRM-CP is designed for individuals who perform HR or HR-related duties or are pursuing a career in Human Resources. Candidates do not need to hold an HR title, degree or previous HR experience to apply. | SHRM-SCP The SHRM-SCP is designed for professionals who perform strategic-level HR work, including developing HR policies and strategies, overseeing HR operations, aligning HR strategy with organizational goals and leading significant HR initiatives. |
EARNING YOUR SHRM CERTIFICATION
Candidates pursuing SHRM certification must apply for the appropriate exam and meet SHRM's current eligibility requirements. Exam windows, application deadlines and fees are established by SHRM and may change, so candidates should review current requirements before applying.
PREPARING FOR THE EXAM
SHRM offers certification preparation resources for both the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP exams, including the SHRM Learning System, instructor-led and self-study options, practice resources and certification guidance.

What is HRCI Certification?
HRCI is an independent credentialing organization offering certifications for HR professionals at different stages of their careers. Its credentials are designed to validate HR knowledge and expertise across operational, professional, strategic and global areas of human resources. HRCI currently offers eight individual certifications organized across knowledge, professional and strategic levels. |
KNOWLEDGE aPHR® | PHRi® Designed for individuals beginning their HR careers or seeking to demonstrate foundational HR knowledge. | PROFESSIONAL PHR® | PHRi® | PHRca® Credentials for HR professionals responsible for implementing programs, supporting organizational needs and applying technical and operational HR knowledge. | STRATEGIC SPHR® | SPHRi® | GPHR® Credentials for experienced HR professionals whose responsibilities include strategic leadership, policy development and global or organizational HR strategy. |

MAINTAINING YOUR CERTIFICATION
SHRM RECERTIFICATION SHRM-CP® and SHRM-SCP® credential holders must recertify every three years. Certification holders may maintain their credential by earning 60 Professional Development Credits (PDCs) during their three-year recertification cycle or by retaking the certification exam. EARN PDCs THROUGH: Missouri SHRM is a SHRM Recertification Provider. Eligible Missouri SHRM educational programs may offer PDCs toward SHRM recertification.
| HRCI RECERTIFICATION HRCI credentials are valid for three years and must be maintained through recertification. Recertification requirements vary by credential and may include both general HR credits and credential-specific credits. Credential holders should review HRCI's current requirements for their specific certification and track qualifying professional development activities throughout their recertification cycle. Missouri SHRM is an HRCI Recertification Provider. Eligible Missouri SHRM educational programs may offer HRCI recertification credit.
